FACIAL PEELS

What is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a widely used and recognized treatment form that can come in especially handy for dermatologists and aestheticians. Chemical peels are a vastly preferred method as they work almost instantaneously and are uniquely customizable. The treatments can vary in ingredients and strengths depending on a patient’s allergens and tolerance.

How do Chemical Peels Work?

Chemical peels are used primarily to remove dead skin cells and skin layers. A tailored chemical mixture is applied to the patient’s skin and later peeled off, taking the top layer of dead skin along with it. New skin cells then grow into a fresh, top layer, and because of the removed toxins, the skin grows back noticeably healthier and smoother. For the best results, multiple treatments are advised; however, an adequate amount of healing time must be allowed for effective results.

Why Use Chemical Peels?

Before After

A wide range of skin conditions as well as imperfections can be improved and removed with the use of chemical peels. Some conditions chemical peels are advised for include:

Melasma – Chemical peels remove the top layer of skin and thus remove pigmented skin cells, allowing for new unaffected skin cells to regrow in their place.

Sun Spots/Age Spots – Strenuous amount of UV or sun exposure can lead to increased melanin production and pigmentation of the skin. Chemical peels can help to remove the deadened skin and give patients an evened-out, smooth-appearing skin tone.

Acne – By removing the top layer of skin, chemical peels also remove allergens, dirt, and bacteria from the skin. As well as clearing irritations, they may also help mitigate pigmentation and redness.

Fine Lines – Along with aging, many begin to notice wrinkles and laugh lines. More prominent wrinkles can be treated surgically with procedures such as botox; however, smaller lines are not often treated. Chemical peels allow for the visibility of wrinkles to decrease significantly as well as improve the appearance, allowing for much more youthful-looking skin.

Many patients use chemical peels to help dissolve imperfections and boost the appearance of their skin rather than using them for chronic skin conditions. Mild to moderate chemical peels can be used more frequently to help maintain a softer, smoother, youthful appearance. Whatever the reason may be, chemical peels can help to resolve any skin imperfections that are standing in your way.

Types of Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are formed using a vast amount of ingredients; some of the most common include salicylic acid, glycolic acid, and retinoic acid. As well as having different ingredients, chemical peels also vary in strength; they tend to range from superficial to deep, and tend to be categorized based on their depth of effect. Superficial peels can be used far more often; however, the results they produce may be subtle and imperfections only minorly improved. Deeper chemical peels need far more downtime between treatments, but they deliver highly effective results and appearances. When looking for the right chemical peel for you, be sure to consider your skin type, pain tolerance, skin condition, and downtime.

Compounded Chemical Peels

For the best chemical peel results, higher-strength peels are often needed. Deep chemical peels are typically only advised by prescription or from a compounding pharmacist. Compounded chemical peels are formulated with high-quality ingredients and are tailored specifically to each patient.
