How To Choose a Fish Oil

I have heard the story many times. You go for a checkup to see your doctor and they recommend a fish oil. You go to the store to buy fish oil only to realize that there are numerous amounts of different fish oil on the shelf. So… you pick a bottle (probably at random or which one is on sale), take it home, take the fish oil, experience a fishy after taste, and let it sit in your cabinet until it expires.

That was the old you! Continue reading to learn all about how to pick out the perfect Omega-3 Fish Oil for you!

Pharmaceutical Grade

The first and most important step in picking out a fish oil product is making sure that the product is Pharmaceutical Grade. What does this mean? Pharmaceutical Grade supplements are the highest quality grade of vitamins and supplements. The purity, dissolution, and absorption meet the highest regulatory standards verified by an outside party. Pharmaceutical grade supplements must be 98–99% pure, meaning they cannot be full of fillers and binders. To meet pharmaceutical grade standards, raw ingredients must be quarantined before production. Pharmaceutical grade supplements undergo testing at several stages throughout the process for purity and potency, and are typically only sold by a licensed health care practitioner such as a doctor or a compounding pharmacy. If you do not know if a product is pharmaceutical grade or not, you can always ask or purchase from Pharmacy Solutions. All of our products are Pharmaceutical Grade to help take the stress away from wondering if a product is high quality or not.

Type of Omega 3

The second step to finding a quality Omega 3 Fish Oil supplement is to check the bottle for what type of Omega 3s the bottle contains. The most important Omega 3s you should be looking for are EPA and DHA. These Omega 3s have been extensively researched and have the most benefit for the body. An important reminder to always remember is that you want to take fish oil for the Omega 3s. If the fish oil does not contain Omega 3s, you are not getting the full benefit of taking this supplement.

How Much Omega 3 the Soft Gel Contains

The third step in picking out a quality fish oil is to check for how much EPA and DHA the product contains. Often times, the bottle will claim that the Fish Oil supplement contains 1000mg of fish oil but does not. The bottle actually indicates that one capsule only contains 200mg of Omega 3s. That means you would have to take 5 of the soft gels to reach 1000mg. These bottles will most of the time be very cheap in cost, making you think that you have saved money. This strategy is all marketing in hopes that you will buy their product. Pharmacy Solutions carries Fish Oil supplements that contain 1000mg of Omega 3s per 1 soft gel that is in the form of EPA and DHA.
