Tom Siegenthaler’s Story:
“My involvement in researching the drug mebendazole (MBZ) started with a question and request from a patient who had cancer. This patient asked me if I could help them with information on mebendazole and its use in the treatment of cancer.

As I started looking at the science behind MBZ and cancer, I was astonished at the vast amount of medical journal articles on this subject. The more I researched, the more information came forward regarding the role of MBZ in cancer, and the multitude of cancers it had been studied in. All of the articles had no negative results or long-term harmful side effects. I was fascinated and could not understand why I had never known about this seemingly safe and effective treatment for cancers.

My journey into this area started with a patient’s request and has led me to one of the most rewarding aspects of my career in my 45 years of being a pharmacist. Working with cancer patients has been truly a blessing. Being able to provide information that is backed by science to help them make decisions about their cancer treatments is gratifying.

The guiding principles for me in this area of my practice are to do the patient no harm, offer a treatment option with a proven record of success, and not offer false hope. These principles are possible using MBZ and other repurposed drugs.”
